Before the release of the ambitious post -apocalyptic role -playing game from the creators of the Enemy Ray, the Ukrainian Studio Best Way, for a long time. There is something to work on, there is time to invent and look for inspiration. At the end of February on Gamery.RU "launched a creative competition in which each participant had a" new union ".

In total, about four hundred works came to the competition. Each second – on a few pages of the text. To say honestly, we almost killed we carefully read to every. But you probably are probably not very interesting to read about how we did not sleep at night, revel in coffee and learned anogenes and anomalies, so after all? Therefore, let's take stock.

The task of the participants in the competition was as follows: to come up with an anomaly and an artifact born in it ("Anogen"). The events of the "New Union" take place in an alternative universe, where the Caribbean crisis ended with a friendly exchange of nuclear blows. The United States disappeared from the globe, and the USSR slowed down in development. And, as you understand, as a result of the disaster, mutants bred and mysterious anomalies appeared. But anomalies – evil is not absolute, but relative. Anomalies form angens with unique properties that can be used to modify the weapon.

That was the task of the participants – to come up with an anomaly, to describe what would happen if you enter it, tell about anogen and figure out how to improve weapons with anogenes. The main thing is at the same time-observing the style of the 1960s, to come up with something original and at the same time realized.

About selection criteria and prizes

Together with Best Way, we have compiled a list of the ten best works and in the process of voting we chose three winners. They are awarded video cards GeForce GTX 660 Ti For the first place, GTX 660 For the second and GTX 650 Ti For the third. System requirements for the New Union have not yet been announced, but we are almost one hundred percent sure that with each of these video cards your computer will launch it at maximum settings, as, indeed, any other modern game.

But besides material prizes, there is something else, maybe even more important: the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a "new union". Some ideas that have come to the competition have a high chance to come to the game later. Sometimes – not literally, but nevertheless! Some of you will then be able to brag to your friends: “Look, look, I came up with it! ", And this article will serve as evidence. But, of course, you should not make a guess in advance-although the developers lit up with the desire to bring some ideas to the game, as the development process will eventually develop and what exactly will appear in the New Union, to predict early.

The criteria for evaluating us and the developers, of course, are different. We looked primarily at originality and vitality, tried to imagine every anomaly and ourselves inside it. Best Way came differently. They are developers and first of all paid attention to the implementation of anomalies and anogenes in the game, they saw not a beautiful picture, but rather a harsh game designer “it will work like this, but this is, and this, sorry, will not work”.

Opinions on individual work with Gamery.ru "and Best Way dispersed, and it is predictable. The final line was brought through the set assessments, and with a common solution we gave the ratings from the developers.

It is noteworthy that the creative vein of our readers pulsates, like a jugular vein on the neck of a bull, but the exhaust often turns out to be like horns with a swing in a concrete wall. For example, many came up with a folly bright anomaly, you read-and just a delight. But then followed the rotten anogen or a banal superstructure for weapons. It was so that you read, read the pages of five texts and at the end you find out that the author invented just … a muffler.

Here are the main mistakes or, more precisely, the weaknesses of the work.

1. Passion for science. Many decided that the text should be replete with medical, physical, weapons and other terms. But units had actual knowledge. As a result, frank nonsense with a bunch of pseudophysics, then the profession of anomaly on the internal organs of man.

2. Increased attention to anomalies. In their description – a sea of ​​fantasy. And then – "merged" anogen and modification. In general, very few people invented truly entertaining superstructures for weapons. As if we have a literary competition for the invention of beautiful anomalies ..

3. Illogicality. Anomaly – ok, anogen – ok, modification – also ok, but there is no connection between them.

However, there were also enough interesting works. We add that we looked not at the volume of the written text, and even more so not at the ornate style, but the meaning. The idea itself was appreciated.

[Best Way] The fantasy of our audience was very pleased. In addition, it was very pleasant to read about game elements that we have already implemented in the game in one way or another – this means that we are moving in the right direction.

The participants of the competition were much better than the weapon, which is modified by anogenes than the physical model of anomalies and methods of production of artifacts. We found problems in the absence of specific game situations, a weak connection between modification and gameplay and in too complex metamorphoses of the victims of anomaly and anogenes. Many ideas are difficult, and often impossible to visualize so that the player understands what is happening.

Some modifications, original at first glance, were completely meaningless in terms of the gameplay. For example, no one will lure the victim into a complicated trap in production (to get an artifact, you need to have special equipment processed using the produced artifact, for which some other ingredients are needed) if the sacrifice can be riddled with nails with nails.

However, we repeat, we are very happy about the results of the competition. The fantasy of our future players is simply amazing!

There is a gravitational anomaly, and a portal gun, and even an anomaly of the “mother of mutants”, from which the blood in the veins is crushed, and many more, and many more.

Mother of mutants, a portal, distorting and gravitational anomalies

Biomorphic anomaly ("mother of mutants")

Anogen: Large, saline-white stones that radiate special waves similar to salt deposits; mined from the insides of the "mother of mutants".

Anomaly inspiring fear in the bright minds of scientists of the new union. The area of ​​action is average. It appears mainly in closed spaces (abandoned mines, tunnels, caves), but always in places of accumulation of different animals. Possesses a kind of otherworldly mind.

With the help of special waves that penetrate the brain and modifying its consciousness, the anomaly captures the body of a young mutant and gradually modifies its structure, DNA and structure, turning into a shapeless, extremely ugly living organism with tentacles and several rotary cavities equipped with razor-sustained teeth and able to erupt the jet of particularly aggressive acid into medium distances. At the same time, radiation intensifies (the radius of its action can reach half a kilometer), and more and more animals and mutants fall under the influence, which from now on become involuntary slaves of the “host”.

In such a swarm, up to fifty enslaved creatures can live. They supply the “owner” with food (they bring the extracted or voluntarily become food, or rather, biomaterial for further development) and serve as “struggle” with external irritants: for example, with animals who managed to not succumb to radiation (human does not succumb to him and human the brain due to its complex structure), and with stalkers who want to eradicate this infection.

In addition to radiation, it uses a heartbreaking roar for the return of “orders”, allowing monsters to be organized quickly.

Stalkers noticed that people are increasingly becoming the victims of creatures, and not even living next to those places where it lives. Apparently, the creature learned to organize from the mutants “raid groups” for the extraction of human genetic material. In addition, she tries to develop in herself the opportunity for self -cutting – for now, fortunately, to no avail. But most likely this is only a matter of time.

Weapon: Raven Crossbow

Scientists from the Research Institute of the New Union developed a semi -automatic composite two -year -old crossbow with an electric drive and optical sight. Especially for it, arrows (bolts) were created with special shells based on anogen of a biomorphic anomaly.

Features of weapons : the enemy, in which they got an “anogenic” arrow, becomes the bearer of the Lighthouse-emitter, which calls and provokes to aggression of any mutant animal. If the arrow did not hit the target, the mutants will run away to where it stuck, and for some time they will violently protect their “their” territory from uninvited guests.

Arrows also inflict physical damage, additionally poisoning the victim, slightly slowing down and weakening it, and even can temporarily nail it to the wall or to the ground (if it falls on the foot).

If the arrow enters the mutant, his brothers in two accounts with him will be dealt with.

Sleep mode : The mode of euthanasia of mutants is also built into arrows. If you put a mutant and move closer to the place of the upcoming battle (in case the monsters are not nearby), after the launch of the main “anogenic” arrow, he will immediately wake up and begin to execute commands.

Anomaly "Portal"

Anogen : weakly vibrating stone with a purple tint.

Appear both in open spaces and in rooms. Existence and the frequency of occurrence – from several seconds to several years. There are in the form of an oval distorting light, circle or spheres with visible electromagnetic swirls. Can be almost imperceptible to the eye. Are located in the air (at different heights), on the ground, ceiling, walls. Diameter – from 1 to 3 m. Some stalkers say that even ten -meter.

The property of portals – to move the matter in space (players, opponents, monsters, objects and even other anomalies). Each portal has an entrance and exit. Some allow you to move back and forth without restrictions, some do not. There are stable and unstable, capable of closing immediately after use. Separate portals are able to transfer the player even to other dimensions. Where, however, not a warm welcome awaits them at all.

Although scientists have not yet been able to understand how these anomalies appear, this does not at all prevent the stalkers from mastering them. And the ability to use these not so rare phenomena on the battlefield and in conditions of severe post -apocalyptic life endlessly delight fighters and adventurers. Lure enemies or monsters into the portal, or even all at once – an insanely cheerful and effective activity! Even some mutants have learned to use these anomalies to hunt people.

  3. Portal disk. Launch a disk, which will “accept” all teleported objects in an arc for an average or close distance. That is, having launched the enemy’s disc through the window, you can teleport the command straight to the enemy behind the back! You can teleport any moved anomaly, explosives and even a mutant (a lot of energy is required).

Distorting anomaly

Properties : distorts the law of inertia, twists the vector of body movement, changes the properties of phenomena and chemical reactions (electricity, fire, low temperatures). All rapidly flying objects randomly change the direction of movement.

The principle of action : bullets released by the player while in the anomaly or in her direction sharply and randomly change the direction of flight. A bullet flying in a straight line can fly in an arc in any direction. All physical shells receive an additional property of repeated ricochet. In practice, the effectiveness of firearms and other exotic weapons in the anomaly is sharply reduced, and the benefits of near -battle weapons are increasing. Personal protective armor from composite materials, using proactive protection based on small quadrangular three -tier cells (are located in three layers) with a special explosive substance, as well as a high -frequency protective field based on angent anomalization. It is characterized by a small level of radiation and a high level of electromagnetic radiation. The main feature is partial or complete abolition of gravity, and sometimes other related laws of physics. Players, monsters, objects (any, up to small buildings), under its influence, hang in the air and slow down a little, but continue to obey the laws of inertia. For example, a fast -running monster or player will retain the lion's share of speed in the abnormalities itself, which will allow him to perform unimaginable tricks and pirouettes in the air. But the opposite effect is also possible – dexterous players will be able to benefit from the current circumstances, turning the advantage of the enemy into their own, because thanks to the effect of anti -gravity, you can move the character in any planes, which will leave the enemy’s fire and find a good position for response to response.

Can be used both with the support of the enemy of the Union forces advancing on the strengthening of the enemy (using shells straight to their troops), and with the support of the retreating, increasing the mobility and tactical capabilities of the allies.

In the mode of mines, the shell released at a distant or close distance does not detonate, but remains inactive until someone approaches it and the experimental motion sensor will react to vibration.

Gravitational mace (near -battle weapons)

A secret experimental weapon created on the basis of a gravitational anomaly with monstrous destructive force.

The base is collected from particularly durable materials. An artifact -based device was invested in the nucleus of the shock “head”, capable of increasing the internal mass of the shock structure a thousand times in a fraction of a second. That is, in practice, the shock part of the head in a moment, when the weapon touched the enemy and is about to convey kinetic energy, increases its mass from 4 to 4000 kg for a split second, maintaining the initial speed. The impact force is transmitted to the opponent, and the mass of the shock element is returned to the original indicator of 4 kg. Result: the enemy receives crushing damage. [Gambling.ru] Anton's work is one of the few not containing obvious flaws. Attention is equally paid to anomalies, anogenes and modifications, and all three components are logically linked to each other. In itself, the use in the game opens up exciting prospects and does not contradict either the laws of the gameplay, or the world of the "new union". The author is also fine with the imagination.

Work perfectly commented on Best Way, and we will note a curious thing. One in the editorial office of Anton's idea was terribly liked. Others, on the contrary, seemed secondary and banal. Best Way was offered to give him the first place and the part of the editorial office who appreciated his work at “Wow!"And" The cut above all that was sent to the competition ". What is the opinion?

[Best Way] Mother of mutants : a well-thought-out ligament of the anomalous zone, monsters that live in anomalies, anogen and modifications based on psi-ability. Just a great job.

Portal : the idea is not new, but described well. The gaming mechanism based on portals allows you to create a lot of puzzles that few people get tired. Modifications of angery weapons open up wide tactical capabilities in battle.

Distorting anomaly : An excellent anomaly for creating areas in which the effectiveness of near -fight weapons is higher than that of the rifle, which will diversify the gameplay. Anogen on the basis of an electromagnetic field in this work is maximally worked out in terms of logic.

Gravity anomaly : A cheerful anomaly with flights in the anti -gravity field is seen with the preservation of the impulse and ricochet from different surfaces – a lot of tactical possibilities. Modifications of weapons from different categories increase the value of anogen.

Second place. Gate to the subspace

Author of the idea: Denis Taratonov

In second place is a spatial anomaly "Mirage" , which drags away all the “second phase” that entered into another world, where incomprehensible creatures live, vaguely resembling snakes. A person who falls into a parallel dimension cannot really move, loses orientation in space and becomes the prey of local residents. Immediately recalls Stephen King's story “Fog” (or his film adaptation of “Mla”), in which the American town fell into the power of creatures from a parallel measurement.

Anogen, extracted from an anomaly "Mirage", is used in grenades. He threw it into the crowd – the crowd went to the "second phase". As the author describes: “The creatures who are in the“ second phase ”receive random damage. Then, living or dead, they again fall into our world. He seems to attract them back. This journey greatly acts on the psyche, panic (aggression to his own and strangers) and fear are possible ".

[[Bullet]] may be that for a few seconds a person who has gone to the “second phase” will return with such a skeleton.

Anomaly "Mirage" and the anogen "Blue Clay"

Anomaly "Mirage"

Ee features: Invisible and intangible.

The history of the discovery: was open by accident. A special intelligence officer entered one of the residential buildings, whose counter -heiger meter showed a deadly dose of radiation. Surprisingly, people lived there for a long time and did not experience any negative consequences. Soviet physicists investigated the anomaly and determined that it was a phase indignation, the center of which is a certain subject on the “that” side. Further experiments made it possible to create equipment that made it possible to synchronize the conditional artifact (anogen) with the phase of our measurement. It was decided to conduct experience in transferring anogen to our world.

The first success almost turned into a disaster. It turned out that the manifested anogen also took part of his world with him – he would be charged with strange snake -shaped translucent creatures. Apparently, in shock and confusion from the transition, they rushed to the equipment and people. Fortunately, the experiment took place outside the victory, which means there was an armed detachment of security. Soviet soldiers immediately opened fire and defended scientists.

Anogen First caused disappointment: a plastic mass of blue, completely inert, according to the devices. It seemed that everything was in vain, but there was a positive reaction to the electric discharge. Under the influence of current, the clay glowed the stronger, the more powerful the current was. Beautiful, but useless. It was decided to take several photos for the report that recognized the meaningless study of the “blue clay”, or blue. Physicist Georgy Frolov connected to a piece of clay 3×3 cm measuring instruments (as he himself then said – for a boring effect), a couple of electrodes and prepared to photograph.

Equipment breakdown changed the course of the routine task. A high -power impulse was filed on the clay that activated it. Flared up, and George, the table and part of the equipment disappeared. As it turned out later, the capture diameter was 3.14 meters. Sirens howled, people peered intently into the instruments and window of the artifact camera, thinking what to do. However, after thirty -seven seconds, a scientist, a table and part of the equipment in a certain anti -spike returned back.

But in what form! The table is dispersed, the devices are broken, George Frolov is seriously wounded. The space where he visited was decided to name the second phase. Frolov describes it as a place where it began to twist and twirl it, the earth was not felt, and in addition it seemed to be drawn in different directions, blood flooded to his head and eyes. Visibility was very limited, but nearby were already familiar translucent snake -like creatures. The scientist found the courage and self -control to take a blind manner before they attacked him. Snakes tore a protective costume on their hands and back, inflicted several lacerated wounds, bit their hands and hips. Fortunately, George withstood this test and returned. Of the photographs taken by him, only one can be called more or less successful, the rest are blurred and spoiled. What he saw and managed to shoot is classified, but we can say that the second phase is a place deeply hostile to man and all living things in our world.

As a result of all this, blue clay completely burned out, it was impossible to use it again. Subsequent experiments with the remaining mass of “blue” allowed to establish that an increase in clay mass is more than a specific value does not entail an increase in the transfer zone. The supply of currents of greater power also did not entail anything new (say, the creation of the portal). Items that exceed the size of the transfer zone, for example, a tank or earthly firmament, did not move, and the mannequins that fell into the second phase and animals received different amounts of damage. Apparently, in the second phase there are slightly less hostile places, where physically and mentally strong man in protective equipment will be able to defend and hold out until returning, receiving relatively small damage. But there are places where nothing will help him. Of the twenty displaced pigs, one returned almost whole, eight wounded, six deadly wounded or death, four completely torn to pieces, and one did not return at all (!).

It could not be achieved about the most successful, and the project was transferred to the experimental weapons laboratory, where phase mines (FAM-1) and manual grenades (Farg-1) were developed. One of the laboratories of the Tafr created a field set for the manifestation of anomalies of the Mirage type and gathering blue clay. It includes three folding antennas and a device for calculating their installation places and launching the phase transition.

How special intelligence officers are looking for a “mirage” and blue clay?

At first, our brave comrades with the help of a Geiger counter are looking for an anomaly place. It is noteworthy in that the testimony of the device begins to go off abruptly, without the transition from low values ​​to high. Pressing the button on the device notes on the map the place of installation of visualization antennas (the search can be designed as a mini-game). Antennas are installed by a triangle, noting the area of ​​anomaly. Their installation and activation causes the transition of anomaly to a visible and tangible state. A artifact appears from nothing and falls to the ground. In appearance and consistency, it resembles blue clay; enough of it for several grenades or mines. Do not forget about the "guests" who appear with him.

Why do you need blue clay?

In the postwar years, Soviet gunsmiths began to make simple and inexpensive German grenades M-24. After the opening of the properties of the "blue" it turned out that they are great for modernization. The explosive was replaced by clay, and a powerful capacitor was inserted into the handle, which produced the pulse five seconds after pulling out the cord. In a similar way, the usual anti -personnel mine was redone.

The principle of anogen: when the player hangs him on the belt, a transparent shield appears in front of him at a distance of two to three meters, repulsing enemy charges. The player’s shells pass through the shield, the enemy shells are ricochet and fly further at an increased speed.
